In 1937 Picasso created his masterpiece “Guernica” to protest the bombing of civilians by General Francisco Franco’s Nationalist forces during the Spanish Civil War. This image, made that same year, conveys pain and tension through a rigid network of lines that divide the figure’s face with disturbing precision. Explore it today in “The Surrealists: Works from the Collection,” on view through March 2.

My dad posted this picture on facebook regarding the situation in Venezuela. It says “Mom, I’ve gone to fight for Venezuela. If I dont return, I’ve left with her.” This lady comented that the smiles on the students faces did not match the severity of the message. My moms response to the lady was that maybe her maturity and experience allow her to understand the profundity of the message and she thinks that the smiles mean they take lightly the message of the motto but that to her the smiles reflect the innocence against the magnitude of the fight.
